At Bagley Dental, we offer some restorative treatments to keep your teeth healthy, beautiful, and strong. Once such treatment, a dental crown, is used to cover and strengthen a damaged tooth while improving its overall appearance. A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is permanently cemented to a tooth. We specialize in all-ceramic crowns because we want our patients to experience their many benefits!
Types of Crowns
There are four major types of dental crowns:
During an initial consultation visit, J. Andrew Bagley DDS or W. Ryan Bagley DDS will perform a comprehensive exam to determine if an all-ceramic crown is right for you. If there is a risk of infection or injury to the tooth’s pulp, we may recommend root canal treatment first.
During the procedure, we will numb the tooth and surrounding gum tissue using a local anesthetic. Next, the tooth will be completely reshaped to accommodate the crown. This involves shaving off a large portion of the enamel. Once the tooth is properly reshaped, we will make a molded impression. This impression will be sent to our dental laboratory, where they will fabricate your final crown. This process may take several weeks. In the meantime, we will provide you with a temporary crown. Your temporary will shield the tooth from the forces of your bite.
Once your restoration is complete, we can schedule your final appointment. During this appointment, we will remove your temporary and check the margins on your new crown. We may need to make some minor adjustments before we permanently cement the crown into place.
